Does Setting Your Intention Get You Where You Want to Go?

SETTING YOUR ENERGETIC INTENTION

There I was first thing this morning, getting ready to set my ‘energy’ intention. To get my energy in a great state, I did a meditation first. I chose one from YouTube, which hosts thousands of them. I like guided meditations because they focus me very quickly and are so immersive, they help me concentrate.

This morning I chose one of Kenneth Soare’s meditations. It was only 6 minutes long, but it ramped me into a very strong state of positivity. To try it click HERE!

After I finished listening to it, I chose a ‘state of being’ that I wanted to embody in the day ahead. I chose “knowing my value” and set my intention.

Then I opened my email.

Glunk! That’s what my stomach did when I opened an email from a friend. My friend was very upset about something I’d done.

Now, I don’t know about you, but when something like this happens, I default to a state that says I’m bad and wrong. Yikes! I could feel all my positive energy surging out of me like a punctured balloon. So much for the awesome day I was going to have.

But wait a minute. What about my intention to feel worthy and unstoppable? I couldn’t, no, I wouldn’t let my intention go that easily. So, I did some tapping and worked through some of the feelings and thoughts. The tapping only took about 10 minutes and soon my inner worthiness bank was refilled. This helped me to believe that even if I had screwed up, since I was valuable, my friend would want to work things through with me. I went on with my day.

A few hours later, my friend and I talked. Because of my intention and the tapping, I was able to really listen and show a lot of caring to my friend and soon, the upset was cleared away and we were close again. Using these two tools, intention and tapping, was crucial to the process.

I’ll focus on tapping in another email, but today I want to teach you how to set an intention We often think of using the tool of Intention when we want to DO something, but it’s a great tool for setting your energetic destination. It will help you take charge of your day. Give it a try.

HOW TO USE INTENTION TO SET YOUR ENERGETIC DESTINATION:

Decide not what you want to DO in the day ahead, but decide who you want to BE! Pick a quality you want to radiate: peacefulness, acceptance, delight, lovingness. Then spend a moment or two visualizing yourself moving through the day ahead radiating this quality. It’s helpful if you include an imagining of something coming at you that might snag you, something you can then imagine yourself handling well.

At the end of the day, notice if setting the intention made your day different. Most people find it’s really helpful to keep them on track.

My gift as a coach is to teach people tools to put them back in charge of themselves and their lives. Intention is a great tool to do that. Try it and see what you think. After all, you wouldn’t get into your car without knowing where you are going, why would you give any less consideration to your energetic field?

Visualization is Brain Magic!

Visualization, Part Two:

I wanted to write to you about visualization again, because I know you’re interested in self-mastery and visualization is such a powerful tool for the process of creating.

Most of us believe what we see. Yet research shows that often, what we see has more to do with our expectations (which are based on our existing beliefs) than any supposed ‘reality’ out there. Placebos are a living example of this. An experiment a few years ago involved several people having knee surgery to reduce pain. Some of the participants had the surgery, but others had an exact replica of the surgery, but had nothing done beyond the incision. Remarkably, both groups reported similar reductions in pain. Why? Because the brain had been primed to expect that and rearranged what it perceived.

Our Brains Self-Select:

Our brains have powerful filters that let in certain thoughts and block others. The brain actually scans the world for evidence of what it knows and will often disregard what it doesn’t think is true. This is called “confirmation bias”. If you want to test this out yourself, tell yourself red cars are everywhere, then begin to notice how you start seeing a great number of them.

As uncomfortable as it might make you, what you believe is going to determine what you see. If you think rainy days are depressing, your brain will notice all the depressing things you encounter on days that it rains and not notice the lovely things.

If you want to change what you attract, you need to change your confirmation bias and get yourself very familiar with the vibrational pattern of what you want. This is why the tool of visualization which I discuss in my book, Your Inner Gold, 21 Powerful Tools to Bring Back Your Shine, is so important: it modulates your brain and your entire energetic system to vibrate in coherence with what you want. As Abraham Hicks says, “You can’t percieve apart from your vibration.” 

The wonderful thing about visualization is that you can do it anywhere and anytime. Picture what you want already being true in your life and imagine it as vividly as you can, involving all of your senses. Start scanning the world for evidence of how this is true, even if that seems to be true just for others right now.

Make sure you take a moment to imagine all the lovely feelings you will experience when your visualization manifests. Let yourself feel proud, happy, excited, joyful, valued. Elevated emotions provide the ‘chemicals’ that catalyse the creation process. and feeling strong emotions will crank up your whole energetic system so it’s in alignment with what you want to create.

Then one day, you will wake up and realize that you’re living the very life that was only a dream a few years ago. I had that experience myself when I reviewed an old vision board I’d made a decade earlier. I realized, to my amazement, that I’d created 90% of everything on that board.

We all can do this. The brain is very powerful and everything we could ever want already exists. The task is to download it into your life. Visualize is one of the best tools you can use to do that.
